DeAndre Cortez Way, Better known as Soulja Boy Tell'em or Soulja Boy was born july 28,1990 in chicago Illinois. In september 2007, Soulja Boy reached number one on the billboard top 100 for his single "Crank That (soulja Boy)".
Soulja Boy developed his love for rap in Atlanta, Georgia alongside his then partner Young Kwon, who indroduced him to Snap Beats and taught him how to make repetative beats and record himself saying the same thing over and over. Soulja Boy now resides in Batesville.
Soulja boy has been critisised about his musical style, as have other crunk and snap music rap artists from the south. The main criticisms he has received is that his songs have no meaning or purpose and lack in Lyrical content. Another reason he has come under criticism for his sexual reference "Superman dat hoe" which, defined by Urban Dictionary means "when you ejaculate on a girls back then put a blanket on her so when she stands up the blanket sticks therefore making her look like she has a cape." Despite this his songs make appearances on Radio Disney, however they have been editted for the Radio.
Snoop Dogg, a rap veteran was quoted in an article on Yahoo.com as saying "They're not making substance material — they're not really going into creating a sound. It's all about making the hot song for right now, but the artists who will stand the test of time like myself are about making records, not songs. You got to make a quality album so you can hold people's attention. It's like a movie. If you make a movie that got (only) one good scene, ain't nobody gonna go see it." Even 50 Cent said "Right now the state of where we are at in hip-hop, it's different. I don't think they want the lyrics to be complex — they want it to be simple, catchy. The Southern-based artist can be credited (with) that, because they're dancing, so now your record has to pretty much be catchy. It doesn't have to be super content, extreme content. It has to have a good rhythm to it and dance."
However, Soulja Boy has tried to set himself apart from these rappers being criticised by stating in a recent interview that "People don't want to go to a club and hear (about) people getting shot or hear about your life story. People want to ... have fun and dance and party."
Another interesting fact about Soulja Boy, which he has also been criticised about is the fact that he produced his whole album Using FL Studio, Formerly Fruity Loops. FL Studio is a digital audio workstation, developed by Image-Line Software a company based in Belgium. The software incorperates numerous features for the editing, mixing and recording of audio files.
The FL Studio user interface comprises 5 main screens:
With just this, Solja Boy created his whole album. Soulja Boy returned to Atlanta after having successfully uploaded his music to the internet and establishing his record label Stacks on Deck Entertainment, Where he and Michael Crooms who has been responisible for such successes as the Ying Yang twins.
